As Ar'lissa forced herself to try and focus on what was going on at the gala her mind drifted back to the day she became an Agent of the Chiss Ascendancy.
Remembrance:
“Fire Team Leader Izi’Ar’lissa,” Supreme Admiral Ja’fosk called out. “Stand forth.”
Ziarli grimaced, bracing herself for what was coming as she stepped into the flood lit circle facing Ja’fosk and the other senior officers in the room. It had been a week since the ‘incident’, and while her team had successfully thwarted the Grysks’ plot and ended up recovering valuable intel, her methods had again skirted her dangerously close to crossing over the line. She wondered if this time was the last straw. “Fire Team Leader, the intelligence you recovered has us concerned. It appears that the Grysk infiltration plans are more extensive then we first thought. We are going to deploy agents into the outer edges of Imperial space, and we have selected you to be one of those agents.”
Ziarli let out a small sigh. “So, this is how they are doing it.” she thought to herself as he continued. “If you accept you will no longer be of any family. The Ascendancy will become your home, your future, and your family.”
Ziarli tried to keep her expression neutral. She knew that members of her own family were unhappy with her actions. Had some of them tried to exert some sort of influence to allow the family to save face? While the military was not supposed to be influenced in such a way it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Ziarli wondered for a moment if she dared ask what would happen if she declined the assignment. “My skills are hardly suited for infiltration; may I assume that if I accept, I will be put into a position to assist those that are?”
“You are correct, but that doesn’t mean you should do nothing but wait for another Agent to contact you.”
Ziarli’s stomach felt like it was twisting a bit, deep down she knew when she joined the military that one day she would have to leave her family name behind, she just didn’t expect it to be like this. But this was now her warrior’s path and the Grysk needed to be stopped. Ziarli nodded to Ja’fosk, “I humbly accept this assignment sir.”
Ja’fosk nodded solomly, “Then Fire Team Leader Izi’Ar’lissa is no more.” He handed Ziarli a box with a clear cover. “In her place now stands Agent Ar’lissa.”
Ar’lissa took the box and looked down at it. There was a black naval uniform with special insignia pins, and markings. Where the Irizi family shoulder patch would have been was the multi-circle symbol of the Chiss Ascendancy. Ja’fosk looked at the other officers for a moment, “Get changed and report to my office for your assignment…”
Ar’lissa’s mind snapped out of her reembrace as her datapad notified her of the winning bid. Things were now in motion, she had to get that message out before they broke back in to steal the Jewel. Things were stating to get a lot more complicated…
