Chapter 40

Amaryliss sat in the chair across from Sigmund in Sebastian's room.  Slowly twirling a splint in her hands.  Watching it spin with intense concentration while trying to formulate the words to explain the two different situations currently splitting her attention.  Knowing she had to somehow explain it all to Sigmund but not knowing if she could.  Opening her mouth to speak then quickly closing it again several times.

Letting out a loud sigh, "I have no idea exactly how to sum up what is going on here."  She paused, "We have two very interesting complications.  Sebastian it seems is struggling with something which is causing him stress and since he is currently sleeping I cannot talk to him about it.  The problem, whatever it is, is causing his energy to fluctuate dangerously."  Looking over at Sebastian she quietly observed the slow rise and fall of his chest.  His breathing seemed natural, though what she observed with her other senses told a different story.  "Then we have Eldrick.  His power levels do not indicate the capacity required to pull the stunt he did today.  I have never seen anything quite like that before and I have been around for nearly five hundred years."  She quickly snapped her mouth shut at the admittance of her age.

Sigmund sat there looking bewildered.  Waiting patiently for her to continue, his gaze travelling across the room.  There didn't seem to be anything out of place and yet she had an uneasy feeling.  Glancing over at Sigmund, she sensed he felt it too.  Neither of them seemed capable of motion when they were struck by a wave of power emanating from Sebastian.  The force of the wave was strong enough to knock them over, splintering the chairs they had just been sitting in.  The sound of snapping wood and twisting metal penetrating the unnatural silence.

With the passing of the surge of force, Sigmund slowly rose from the prone position.  Amaryliss slowly rising to her feet as well.  As they glanced about the wreckage of the room, they gave each other a look indicating it was only inanimate objects which seemed to suffer.  There was not a single stick of furnishings that were intact.  That is none but the couch on which Sebastian was laying on.  The destruction seemed to be contained in the room.

"AMARNA!" Sigmund's mental voice was loud and demanding immediate attention.  "Well, shall we start cleaning up this mess until someone comes to help us?"  He looked over at Amaryliss, who was kneeling with Sebastian's head cradled in her lap.  "Never mind you look like you have your hands full."  Quietly he left the room.  Or at least he tried to.  The wood of the door had warped in the frame.  Cursing under his breath for the stability of the stone walls surrounding the frame, he slammed his shoulder into the door.  Letting out a cry of pain at the uncompromising oak.  He slid down the wall to sit on the floor beside the door.

"In my nine hundred years I have never been trapped by a door.  I know it was magic that warped the door but I know of not a single spell which could be used to remedy the outcome."  His brow wrinkled in thought, "Sergei, it seems Sebastian has caused a small disturbance in the House of Healing.  We could use your help.  Amaryliss and I are sort of trapped in Sebastian's room as the door has warped.  Are you aware of any spell which may be used to straighten the door in its frame?"
