Godly Contract
Godly contracts are the lesser known and lesser used siblings of demonic contracts. They bind together the soul of a god and a mortal, or in some cases the souls of multiple gods to one god or even multiple gods to one mortal. The contracts give the signer godlike powers often in exchange for a service required by the gods who give the contract.
In our case here, the gods Luna, Elr, Ohin, and Karak gave a contract to Tormund asking that he be Avan’s Warden in exchange for demi-god status as well as the powers needed to contain Avan to the mortal plane and the 7 hells.
I once met Tormund and he allowed me to read this contract. Unfortunately I learned quickly that it is impossible to transcribe a godly contract and nearly impossible to remember its contents if you are not specifically mentioned in its text. What I can say is that Avan is not bound in any way by the text in the contract; he is only kept in line by Tormund’s efforts as his warden meaning the two are locked in an eternal combat of sorts. Additionally Tormund is prevented from taking any lethal action against any gods including Avan. I found this revelation specifically troubling considering how Avan is likely not idle in his confinement. The properties of infinity are clear in this instance, Avan is fighting a fight he can lose infinitely, Tormund is fighting a fight that if he loses just once, releases Avan back to the heavens where he will undoubtedly seek a vengeance that the mortal beings of Mataia are unlikely to survive.
I intend to conduct further research on this subject that will hopefully lead to my defeat of Avan or in the event of my failure, a defeat of Avan by a stronger hero hopefully assisted by my work.
