Matagi left the meeting with her family knowing what her role would be. On top of having to perform the tasks laid in front of her by her mother, she would also have to protect her siblings and this world from outside influences. Spreading the chunks of her moon in a circle around Fa'avae. The notes that she played on her harp began to make the chunks move. The more she played the faster they spun around the planet. An impenetratable shield would be created by her small belt of rock.
She sat on one of the bigger pieces and began to continue her travels around the planet. As she passed each of her siblings they nodded at her, knowing that what she was doing protected them all. Matagi had to continue protecting the planet from asteroids or anything else that was on a collision course with it to protect the civilization and let it thrive. This made her a target for her brother Mata'utia and she knew it. Anytime her rock passed by his planet she watched him very closely. He believed that all of the people and the civilization as a whole should be destroyed.
This perplexed Matagi. The knowledge that she had and that she occasionally shared with the people of Fa'avae would be wasted if there were no people to share her knowledge with. She always wanted to learn more. The only way to learn more was through experimenting and questioning the world around her. The problem was that she couldn't question anything. She couldn't speak. Using her harp she could 'speak' to the other gods or her mother, but when she tried to use it when speaking with humans it wouldn't work. They could only ever see images or emotions that she was sending, never hear the words. This became difficult for some to follow her. Only the people that were on a true quest for knowledge would be loyal and devout to her.
As she swirled around the world she would look in on her people to ensure that they were progressing their society correctly. Anytime they would stray too far from the path she would gently guide them back towards the middle. To much technology and they would destroy themselves, not enough and they may begin to feel incomplete. Keeping balance was a much harder task than Matagi had originally thought. The mortals were always trying to implode on themselves.
She was very good at the task of giving knowledge where it was needed and helping to keep the development of civilization in check. She enjoyed the company of her mother and the feeling was reciprocated. Paleni appreciated the time that she got to spend with Matagi because they could sit in silence and relax. Matagi never felt the need to communicate. She did so when it helped her end goal. Paleni was very similar in this aspect.
When they were near eachother Malulu and Matagi got along famously. Malulu wanted nothing more than peace for the mortals and her siblings. Peace was a good way for a civilization to thrive. Their goals aligned very well and so the sisters were quite a force together. They also shared a love for knowledge. Malulu having all knowledge of magic and Matagi having all of the knowledge of the mundane helped. They both encouraged their followers to strive to learn more and never stop.
As the time passed Matagi also built a very good relationship with her brother Palapala. He would request permission to traverse her barrier with the souls of the dead that he was helping to escort to Vaitafe Ola, the life river. This was the only time she ever let anything pass through her barrier. Over time she stopped many things from destroying or attacking the planet. Usually, it was just the occasional asteroid, but every once in a while it was something more sinister. People who had advanced far beyond the people on her planet would show up in cold metal ships. She always worried that they had the intent of conquering her civilization. They weren't allowed to pass through the barrier. Few tried, but when they did she ensured they had a bad day.
The people of her planet were ignorant to the rest of the universe. Matagi did her best to keep it that way. None of the people knew of the O Le Lima Loto or Le Tama Uma. These of course were the beings that were stronger than her mother. O Le Lima Loto were the five hearts of the universe. All Matagi knew of them was that they provided Vaitafe Ola for the souls of Fa'avae's people. In return the worship that was given to her and her siblings was sent back to the hearts. Le Tama Uma is the father of the hearts. Little is known about him across the universe. Few had ever met him and fewer still got to have conversation with him.
Matagi knew her brother Mumu's goal was to gain enough of a following that he would receive an audience with O Le Lima Loto or possibly even Le Tama Uma. The thought of this terrified her.
